Playfair Events (PFE) first Open Amateur Golf Event of the 2018 golfing season took place on Sunday 13th May at Leasowe Golf Club, with Ezee Quit Wirral (who help keep golf courses clean and tidy), the lead event sponsor.
A sell-out success, the pairs BB competition kicked off on a glorious Wirral morning, with the Leasowe course, as always, in fantastic condition.
The event was at full capacity as PFE delivered a day in the life of a professional golfer and, as always, the combination of excitement and professionalism generated an awesome feel good factor, creating a day to remember for all concerned.
We had eagles and plenty of birdies along the way with some outstanding golf being played over the course of the day.
The luxury Lexus car was up for grabs on the par 3, 18th hole, and with the clubhouse balcony at Leasowe overlooking the green packed with spectators from midday onwards, the excitement continued to build. Cheering every tee shot, they added to the already electric atmosphere, urging a hole in one and the car to be won, whilst our cameras recorded every shot into the green.
As the day unfolded our proxy marker was moved closer to the pin many times, which ended with Steve Mellor a mere 18 inches away from driving away in a new luxury Lexus motor courtesy of Lexus Chester. Mr Mellor did not leave empty handed, however, and after his amazing effort he walked away with a luxury weekend test drive of a fabulous Lexus RX. WOW!
We always ask our golf participants to arrive an hour early than their tee time, adding to the atmosphere around the 1st tee box and ensuring seamless timekeeping on the day. Our golfers did not let us down, and the atmosphere on the 1st tee replicated the balcony on the 18th green it was electric, all golfers being cheered when their name was announced by our official starter, Radio City’s Mr Steve Weaver.
The tournament winners Carl Rowson and Mark Foxley both played a superb round scoring 48 points to claim first place outright (£200). We had a tie for second place, with the standard countback rule separating Terry Myers and Dave Wilson in 2nd (£150) and Keith and Aaron Corner in 3rd place (£100) both scoring an impressive 45 points each, well done to you three pairs.
